During a radio interview this morning, Prime Minister Gaston Browne underscored Antigua & Barbuda’s commitment to achieving all the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) “within the next few years.”<\/p>

“We will be seeking to achieve all of the SDGs within the next few years and even looking beyond achieving the SDGs. We\u2019re hoping that within this decade, under Antigua and Barbuda’s leadership, we\u2019ll be able to further diversify the economies of SIDS and explore unexploited areas such as the marine economy and the blue economy to see how we can exploit those oceanic resources for the benefit of our people.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prime Minister Browne emphasized the importance of sustainable and lasting prosperity, noting that it is crucial to ensure economic gains are not fleeting and vulnerable to erosion due to the inherent challenges faced by small island states. <\/p>

Browne also outlined plans to diversify the economies of SIDS, focusing on unexploited areas such as the marine and blue economies. He emphasized the need to harness oceanic resources for the benefit of the people, aiming to create a sustainable and diversified economic future for all residents of small island developing states.<\/p>

“We believe that we have the capacity to work with the international community to develop strategies and programs that build greater resilience and bring long-term prosperity to our peoples,” Browne stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals that Antigua and Barbuda are committed to achieving by 2030 include:<\/p>

  1. No Poverty:<\/strong> End poverty in all its forms everywhere.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Zero Hunger:<\/strong> End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Good Health and Well-being:<\/strong> Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Quality Education:<\/strong> Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Gender Equality:<\/strong> Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Clean Water and Sanitation:<\/strong> Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  7. Affordable and Clean Energy:<\/strong> Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  8. Decent Work and Economic Growth:<\/strong> Promote sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  9. Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure:<\/strong> Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and foster innovation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  10. Reduced Inequalities:<\/strong> Reduce inequality within and among countries.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  11. Sustainable Cities and Communities:<\/strong> Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  12. Responsible Consumption and Production:<\/strong> Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  13. Climate Action:<\/strong> Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  14. Life Below Water:<\/strong> Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  15. Life on Land:<\/strong> Protect, restore, and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, manage forests sustainably, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  16. Peace and Justice Strong Institutions:<\/strong> Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all, and build effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions at all levels.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  17. Partnerships to Achieve the Goal:<\/strong> Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
