The Cabinet has announced the soon-arriving Chinese hospital ship, the Daishan Dao<\/em> (Ark Peace<\/em>), to Antigua and Barbuda in mid-October.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis will be their sixth mission,\u201d said deputy Chief Medical Officer Oritta Zachariah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ark Peace will come to the Caribbean as a part of its Mission Harmony<\/em> 2018. Since 2008, it has visited 37 countries and provided free medical services for more than 180,000 people.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The hospital ship, commissioned in 2008, eight operating theaters, 300 hospital beds, 57 medical doctors, 27 nurses, 36 pharmacists, medical technicians, maintenance engineers. The patient care includes 21 departments or specialties including: gastroenterology, cardiovascular medicine, respiratory medicine, neurology, nephrology, general surgery, urinal surgery, orthopedics, ophthalmology, gynecology and obstetrics, dermatology and pediatrics among others. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe added value of the ship\u2019s arrival will be in the areas of medical specialization that will be offered to the public at very little to no cost to them,\u201d said Dr. Zachariah of the floating hospital\u2019s expected benefit on arrival to the island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Traditional Chinese medicine will also be available. The teams on board are also capable of leaving the ship to perform surgeries in the hospital and for joint rounds in clinics. <\/p>

The Cabinet release also states that, \u201cMedical detachments can also be sent to villages, communities, nursing homes and other places where medical services are required but patients may not be mobile.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Medical experts will also be available to provide basic life-support training of professionals, during their two-week stay in Antigua. <\/p>

Patients who are interested may register at the Mount St. John Medical Center.<\/p>
