Families and staff at the Mount Saint John\u2019s Medical Centre\u2019s (MSJMC) Pediatric Ward are to benefit from yet another donation of life-changing<\/g> medical equipment from the Sandals Foundation. The donation, valued at over US$27,000, include vital sign monitors, electronic scales, pediatric beds, hand held pulse oximeters and<\/g> cardiac monitors, is set to benefit almost 1000 children per year.<\/p>

Executive\nDirector of the Sandals Foundation, Heidi Clarke said the latest donation\nreflects the foundation\u2019s commitment to children\u2019s health across the Caribbean\nregion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs a foundation operating in the\nCaribbean, we understand and acknowledge how a lack of the right medical\nequipment and resources can significantly affect a country\u2019s ability to provide\nthe proper medical attention to its citizens. This donation today is another\nindication of our promise to the region to assist in areas of most need and\ncreate a better community and future for all,\u201d<\/em>\nClarke said. <\/p>

This\nis the Sandals Foundation\u2019s second donation of medical equipment to the\nhospital\u2019s pediatric ward, which is the only acute care facility which offers\n24 hour emergency care services on the island. In 2016, the foundation donated\ntwo Comprehensive Infant Care Centers, valued at almost US20,000. With over pre-term\n200 births at the Mount St. John\u2019s Medical center in 2017 and over 100 so far\nfor 2018, hospital officials are speaking to the overwhelming success of its\nComprehensive Infant Care Centers that service the institution\u2019s neonatal\ndepartment.<\/p>

Salma\nCrump, Head of Marketing & Communications at MSJMC said the\nentire neonatal department have embraced the comfort and security of the Infant\nCare Centers which have also provided peace of mind for parents who sometimes\nstruggle with the life-altering possibilities that come with pre-term births.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHundreds of babies are born each\nyear at Mount St. John\u2019s Medical Centre, and we strive to do everything we can\nto get the newest members of our community off to a healthy start. This is why\nwe\u2019re so grateful for the support and generosity of the Sandals Foundation \u2013\ntheir funding helps to take the pressure off of our NICU team, and allows them\nto focus on caring for our tiniest patients,”<\/em>\nCrump said.<\/p>

MSJMC\nChairman Bernard Percival had called on the Sandals Foundation to look at\ncontinuing its relationship with the medical institution, while recognizing the\ncompany\u2019s commitment to the continued development of Antigua and Barbuda. \u201cWe hope that other individuals and\ncorporate entities will emulate your example,\u201d<\/em> Percival said, adding, \u201cOne has to understand that for an\ninstitution like this to provide a comprehensive service we need to have\ncontributions by corporate entities.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since\n2009, The Sandals Foundation, the nonprofit arm of Sandals and Beaches Resorts,\nhas been working throughout the Caribbean to inspire hope and improve lives. To\ndate, the Foundation has reached and impacted over 209,000 people across the\nregion through health initiatives.<\/p>
