The Technical and Allied Workers Union (TAWU) Monday confirmed that its members at the Grenada Broadcasting Network (GBN) are protesting \u201coutstanding issues\u201d and are not on strike.<\/p>

\u201cThe staff is not on strike, they are away from their workstations protesting an issue,\u201d said TAWU president general, Andre Lewis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some GBN staff protesting the return of general manager<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

But shop steward, Bernardette Connell, said the action by the workers is to publicly highlight to the management of the Trinidad-based One Caribbean Media (OCM) some outstanding grievances.<\/p>

\"\"<\/div>\n\n\n\n

OCM, which is a merger of the Caribbean Communications Network of Trinidad and Tobago, and the Nation Corporation of Barbados, is the major shareholder of GBN with the Grenada government as holding minority shares.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The workers are said to be protesting the return of the general manager, Mrs Odette Campbell, who is returning to work on Monday after recently completed a 12-month study leave. They said their grievances were pointed out to OCM the management before Campbell left the island on study leave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are not happy with the way in which the Trinidad management is dealing with our concerns, we don\u2019t think they are seriously considering our grievances and this action today is to show them we want our grievance to be resolved,\u201d said Connell.<\/p>

\u201cWe have done a petition which was sent to the management and members of the board of directors and we want them to consider they take the actions as suggested from us the workers,\u201d she said, without elaborating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Connell said that the protest would continue until the staff is satisfied that the management is listening to their problems and provide \u201csomething in writing\u201d that will matter will be handled in a professional manner.<\/p>
