Jumby Bay Island<\/strong>, a private island off the coast of\u00a0Antigua<\/strong>, has announced that the resort will have new updates to its beach pool, spa, veranda\u00a0building, and watersports area when it reopens in October.\u00a0<\/p>

The renovation, which started in July and continued through the island\u2019s annual closing in late August, is estimated at $7 million in new build-out, interior design, and soft updates to common areas, all designed by\u00a0Patricia Anastassiadis\u00a0<\/strong>of Brazilian design firm\u00a0Anastassiadis Arquitetos<\/strong>. This is the second phase in a three-phase multi-million-dollar investment into the island\u2019s structures, which started with the addition of\u00a0The Estate House<\/strong>, which opened in 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The redesign will be contemporary yet complementary to Jumby Bay\u2019s tropical heritage, with natural, light, and airy tones. Upon arrival, guests will be welcomed with views of the\u00a0Caribbean Sea<\/strong>, refined d\u00e9cor and an abundance of greenery. The entry will be outfitted with\u00a0Crinoline Armchairs<\/strong>, a 1900 Portuguese Trestle Table, and a vintage golden sculpture made from dismantled antique furniture. The front desk, real estate office, and public restrooms will also be renovated to give the entire area a contemporary transformation.<\/p>

One of the most significant updates to the resort will be <\/g>The Jumby Bay Spa<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGuests will experience a new relaxation area, wet and dry saunas and<\/g> plunge pool, in addition\u00a0to two double and three single treatment rooms. The vaulted ceilings and stone entryways have been inspired by the islands own sugar mill and the updated interiors use natural wood paneling and a color palette of greys, blues and<\/g> greens. Signature treatments will be inspired by indigenous natural ingredients and performed before ocean views, using both traditional and modern therapeutic spa methods<\/p>

The\u00a0Jumby Bay Veranda<\/strong>\u00a0will transform into an Italian trattoria. The renovation will be all-encompassing and include the entire bar, restaurant, Veranda\u00a0display kitchen and lounge area. The redesigned restaurant will be contemporary yet nautical, while accenting Jumby\u2019s blue waters. Signature pieces of furniture include an\u00a0Arnaldo Danemberg<\/strong>\u00a01900s trestle table, a\u00a0Wilson Ferreira<\/strong>\u00a0handmade nautical rope sculpture and a 1920s French wood canoe paying homage to the indigenous\u00a0Arawak Indians\u00a0<\/strong>in the Caribbean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\u00a0Jumby Bay Bar and Lounge<\/strong>, complete with gray and white flooring, will include a seating area on the beach with fire pits for guests to relax. The redesign will showcase natural tones with Arnaldo Danemberg Vintage furniture pieces and Patricia Anastassiadis\u2019 signature furniture pieces.<\/p>

A new beachfront infinity pool, The Jumby Bay Pool, will be shaded by lush palm trees and lined with neutral slate tiles which blend into the surroundings. Just beyond the new pool will be a new watersports center, 22 Knots \u2013\u00a0The Jumby Bay Watersports Center<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 a whitewashed Pavilion with limestone floors and a marine theme running throughout. This will be a place for guests to grab a paddleboard or hire Jumby\u2019s 45-foot custom built catamaran to explore the island, while those who would rather take it slow can borrow a paddle board or snorkel. \u00a0<\/p>

Antigua is also known as a sailing destination, and brand-new for the 2018\/19 winter season Jumby Bay will debut a\u00a0Sailing Academy<\/strong>\u00a0for guests staying on Jumby Bay Island. The Club will facilitate guest and residence community interaction. The Jumby Bay Sailing Academy is being created to provide accredited instructional training for all ages, equipped with\u00a0RS Elite<\/strong>\u00a0sailing boats and\u00a0RS Zest\u00a0<\/strong>sailing boats.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The island is also updating its signature boutique with interiors styled in hues of grey with gold and natural leaf green accents, while original wooden surfboards and straw leaf fans will line the walls and ceiling. The boutique will be stocked by\u00a0Oetker Collection\u2019s\u00a0<\/strong>lifestyle brand,\u00a0Eden Being<\/strong>, and will sell the latest exclusive design collaborations from brands such as\u00a0Anya Hindmarch, Orlebar Brown\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Love Brand,\u00a0<\/strong>exclusively for Jumby Bay Island.<\/p>\n
