The 12th Biennial Convention of the United Progressive Party (UPP) will feature a week of activities under the theme \u201cTogether in Unity: Forward to Victory.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cYouth Connect,\u201d an initiative designed to inspire, educate and empower the youth, will be held on Thursday 18th April at Freedom Hall, under the theme \u201cThe Contributions of Youth Talent to Socio-economic Development.\u201d<\/p>

Senator Damion Crawford, Shadow Minister of Education and Community Development for the PNP in Jamaica, will deliver the keynote address. A panel of Antiguan and Barbudan experts will address the topic \u201cHow is Today\u2019s Economy Affecting the Youth? The Disparity Between Economic Growth and Their Pockets.\u201d The panelists will be Mr. Sowerby Gomes, Technical Director of the ABFA and two entrepreneurs, Hon. Anthony Smith, M.P. and\u00a0 Tricia Edwards, owner of TKTops.<\/p>\n

\u201cYoung people play a crucial role in the development of our country. But if our youth face unemployment and lack skills and financing, they cannot actively participate in the economy. It is important to invest in the education and entrepreneurship skills of young people, to harness their potential and ensure that they make a meaningful contribution to our country’s development,\u201d said Hon. Anthony Smith, M.P. for All Saints West.<\/p>

\u201cThe transition of society from one generation to another relies on the youth, making our role in national development extremely critical. \u201cYouth Connect,\u201d is open to the public. It will begin with a networking session at 6pm and the general session will begin at 7pm. There will be a number of activities that will aim to engage the youth and also a performance\u00a0 by UCG Entertainment.<\/p>
