The Guyana Defence Force Coast Guard successfully rescued five individuals from the cargo vessel AMAYA on Thursday.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The vessel, carrying cement and stone, encountered distress when it began taking on water around 4 am, the Coast Guard said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Based on reports, the incident occurred after the vessel had been grounded on a sandbank around 10:30 pm the previous evening, awaiting high tide to depart.<\/p>

Rough water conditions caused the vessel to start sinking, prompting the crew to seek assistance.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The Coast Guard responded, arriving to find the vessel sinking.<\/p>\n

After a rescue operation at 6:30 am, all five crew members were safely extracted and taken to Headquarters Coast Guard.<\/p>
