\naccused Prime Minister Gaston Browne of trying to \u201csave face\u201d
\nafter he claimed that Opposition parliamentarians were included
\nin the 14 percent salary increase that he and his ministers

The Browne Administration recently circulated the 2024
\nRecurrent Expenditure for Parliament as proof that the
\nOpposition Benches were to be included in the pay hike.<\/p>\n

However, Isaac challenges the prime minister, asking how
\nOpposition parliamentarians could have been granted a raise
\nwhen they neither knew about nor have seen any such salary
\nincrease.<\/p>

According to the UPP Chair, if everything had been above board,
\nthe matter would not have been shrouded in secrecy.
\nShe adds that, prior to the Administration\u2019s circulation of the
\nExpenditure page, no Cabinet Notes or any other information
\nfrom the Government had announced that any such raise was to
\ntake effect for parliamentarians.<\/p>

Even more telling are two separate circulars \u2013 one dated
\nDecember 29, 2023, and the other January 17, 2024 \u2013 that were
\nsigned by the financial secretary and addressed to the clerk to
\nParliament.<\/p>\n

The documents explicitly excludes parliamentarians and
\nministers from the January 2024 public-sector salary increases.<\/p>

Isaac notes that, in a further cover up, the prime minister claimed
\nthere was a \u201cglitch\u201d in the relay of information from the
\nParliament.<\/p>\n

The UPP chair explains that any such \u201cglitch\u201d is unlikely \u2013 since,
\nwith the December 2022 dissolution of Parliament, the term of
\noffice for all parliamentarians \u2013 Government and Opposition \u2013
\nwas ended.<\/p>

All elected persons would then have begun a new term in office
\non January 18, 2024.<\/p>
