In a statement on radio addressing the UN’s assessment, Prime Minister Browne emphasized Antigua and Barbuda’s commitment to advancing its human development indicators.<\/p>

“The United Nations just ranked us 54 on the Human Development Index, second highest in the Caribbean,” said Prime Minister Browne.<\/p>

“When we finish building out (UWI) and increasing more graduates per capita, we are going to be in the number one position shortly.”<\/p>\n

Browne said Antigua and Barbuda’s strong showing in the HDI reflects ongoing efforts to improve education, healthcare, and economic opportunities for its citizens.<\/p>

The government’s policies aim to enhance the quality of life and well-being of Antiguans and Barbudans, positioning the nation as a key player in the region’s development landscape.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, neighboring St. Kitts and Nevis has secured the top spot in the CARICOM region in terms of human development, according to the UNDP’s 2023-24 Human Development Report.<\/p>

This achievement underscores the effectiveness of St. Kitts and Nevis’ education and health policies, which have contributed to the nation’s impressive HDI index and overall progress.<\/p>

Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew of St. Kitts and Nevis welcomed the UN’s recognition, highlighting the nation’s dedication to sustainable development and improving the lives of its people.<\/p>\n

The UN report, published on March 13, 2024, under the theme: \u201cBreaking the Gridlock: Re-imagining Cooperation in a Polarized World,\u201d indicated that among the countries in the CARICOM, Saint Kitts and Nevis achieved the highest rank, placing 51st out of 193 nations evaluated.<\/p>\n
