Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Emphasizes Need for Information Commissioner<\/strong><\/p>

During a recent parliamentary session, Prime Minister Gaston Browne of Antigua and Barbuda addressed the ongoing issue of appointing an Information Commissioner for the nation.<\/p>\n

He revealed that discussions regarding this matter had taken place in the cabinet “a few weeks ago” and that they are currently evaluating “several prospects” for the position.<\/p>

Browne assured that once they finalize the shortlist, a new Information Commissioner will be appointed.<\/p>

When questioned about the duration without an Information Commissioner, Browne acknowledged that it had been “possibly about 18 months.”<\/p>\n

Despite this vacancy, he pointed out that the information offices within various Ministries are operational.<\/p>

He stated, “The information offices in the various Ministries…all they need to do is to write to the information offices within the various Ministries and the information can be obtained.”<\/p>\n
