UNICEF and the Organization of Eastern
\nCaribbean States (OECS) Tuesday signed a renewed Partnership Agreement, which will
\ndirectly impact the lives of children and young people across OECS Member States.
\nThe agreement supports the OECS Human and Social Development Strategy, focusing on
\nkey areas aligned with the missions of both UNICEF and the OECS. These areas are Child
\nProtection, Social Protection, Inclusive Education, Youth Engagement, and Climate and
\nResilience.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cUNICEF represents one of the finest examples of collaboration and partnership between
\nthe OECS and a UN Agency,\u201d said OECS Commission Director General Dr. Didacus Jules.
\n\u201cThis partnership is distinct, with active discussions and engagement on concepts, ideas,
\nand experiences that enrich both organizations.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr. Jules revealed that the new OECS-UNICEF partnership extends beyond OECS
\nMember States to include British Overseas Territories as Associated Members. He
\ncommended UNICEF’s continuous support in strengthening integration within the OECS.
\nUNICEF Representative for the Eastern Caribbean, Pieter Bult, underscored the
\nimportance of his organization’s close relationship with the OECS Commission.
\n\u201cOur partnership with the OECS is invaluable,\u201d Bult declared. \u201cWe aim to make the OECS
\nmore effective, especially in areas of joint interest, and for our teams to work closer
\ntogether on planning and implementing projects.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Mr. Bult emphasized the unique challenges facing Small Island Developing States (SIDS)
\nin the OECS as another area of priority. \u201cChildren\u2019s lives cannot be addressed through a
\nsectoral lens,\u201d said Bult. \u201cWe need to see the collective impact of our interventions to
\nachieve real progress. There is still much work to do, especially with increasing child
\npoverty post-COVID and the need to focus on Early Childhood Education. With the OECS\u2019s
\nhelp, we hope to make a significant difference.\u201d<\/p>

The OECS plans to increase the visibility of UNICEF-funded programmes, including
\nbeneficiary testimonials and a documentary highlighting key milestones and successes of
\nthe long-standing partnership.
\nDr. Jules concluded by stating, \u201cIn all our partnerships, our partners’ flag will fly equally high
\nbeside ours.\u201d
