In his contribution, Nicholas remarked, “It is worth repeating that Antigua ranks as having the lowest tax burden in the entire OECS and globally.<\/p>

Mr. Speaker, we are trailing at about 16 to 17% of GDP, significantly below the prescribed 25%. This government has put in place mechanisms to deal with structural problems and empower our people.”<\/p>\n

Nicholas further explained the rationale behind the bill, stating, “If we presented a budget with a huge fiscal deficit, we would be criticized. This bill addresses longstanding issues and ensures that the government can meet its obligations while continuing to empower the people.”<\/p>

He also defended recent tax adjustments and legislative changes, stating, “On average, the impact on car owners remains limited, with an environmental levy not exceeding $2,000. The government maintains discretion in granting duty waivers to support constituents’ needs.”<\/p>\n
