Members\nof the University of the West Indies will be carrying out a feasibility study\nover the next couple days in Antigua and Barbuda to assess, where the country\nis at with reference to establishing the 4th<\/sup> University Campus here on\nthe twin island state.<\/p>

The three-member team along with Hyram Forde Principal of the Antigua State College<\/g> met with the Attorney General the Hon. Steadroy Cutie Benjamin just to give him an update as to what the feasibility study will entail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The group will visit the Five Islands Campus on Monday and Tuesday along with carrying out infrastructure and technological assessments.<\/p>

Minister\nBenjamin reiterated the need for the University Campus to be established in\nAntigua and Barbuda. He noted that his government has a vision that within 5-10\nyears of operation, the educational facility will have great economic benefit\nnot only to Antigua but the region.<\/p>

Benjamin\ncontinued, \u201cthe access to higher education is very limited to small island\ncountries and studies have been done to prove this; the opening of a 4th<\/sup>\nUniversity Campus of the West Indies is critical, as it will be far more\naccessible to all persons and will promote the\u00a0\nfurther development of the country as a whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Principal\nof the Antigua State College Hyram Forde says the importance of the topic being\ndiscussed is understood and all measures must be put in place by the government\nto ensure that it becomes a reality.<\/p>

Benjamin\nadded that provisions will be made to ensure that the University once\nestablished will receive adequate funding from the government. <\/p>\n
