Officials responsible for building the government’s 500 homes project have reportedly told Prime Minister Gaston Browne that the houses are too cheap.<\/a>Based on the prime minister’s own revelations, he was taken to task during a recent meeting\u00a0with National Housing officials.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

“They said that I have set the bar too low for the pricing of the homes,” Browne disclosed on Pointe FM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some of the homes are being sold for around 200 thousand dollars but Browne was told: <\/g>“they are building half a million dollar homes especially when you factor in the cost of the infrastructure.”<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The houses at several locations on the island are being built with concrete roads, underground conduits, sewage systems, cisterns, in many instances they are built on piles and they also have solar energy.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

“They have made the claim that based on the policy which I have presided over, it’s not sustainable. In essence, these individuals are getting 250 thousand dollars in value.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“So I’m told that well have to review it. I mean we will have to keep them as cheap as possible but they reckon its just too cheap and with that level of subsidy it’s going to create some problem in the long run, which I accept.”<\/p>

The venture started out with a plan to build 500 homes in 500 days but when that wasn’t possible, prime minister Browne expanded the scope of the so-called affordable housing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He told Pointe FM that many more homes will be completed before the end of the year.<\/p>
