Member of Parliament Richard Lewis Threatens Legal Action Over Governance Concerns<\/strong><\/p>\n

Member of Parliament Richard Lewis voiced strong intentions to take legal action regarding governance issues in Antigua and Barbuda, particularly targeting Prime Minister Gaston Browne’s administration.<\/p>

Lewis highlighted concerns about the lack of transparency and adherence to the law within the government.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

“Sometimes when you look at things and the little that you know, if you dig deep, you’ll be shocked as to what is going on behind. We haven’t had an Information Commission for about 2 years. That goes against the letter of the law,” Lewis emphasized.<\/p>\n

He expressed frustration over the absence of an Information Commission, which is mandated by law.<\/p>

Lewis criticized the response from the Minister of Information during a press briefing, where it was suggested to bring questions to him instead of having a functioning commission.<\/p>\n

“We don’t want anything from him. We want a commission as a minister of government that’s due. There shall be an Information Commission. You know what that means, right?” Lewis stated, referencing the provisions in the law and the Freedom of Information Act.<\/p>

Lewis pointed out the importance of integrity in public life and anti-corruption measures, cautioning the Prime Minister and others allegedly violating laws.<\/p>

He stressed the need for accountability, especially concerning the management of taxpayers’ dollars.<\/p>\n

“Anything to do with the management of taxpayers’ dollars, you have to answer. Somebody must give an answer,” Lewis asserted.<\/p>\n

He also referenced an Auditor’s report from 2020 that raised concerns about unverifiable information, indicating potential financial irregularities that need addressing.<\/p>\n

Lewis reaffirmed his stance on pursuing legal avenues to address these governance issues. “We need to litigate a lot of these things, take them to court. We have the law on our side,” he stated firmly.<\/p>\n
