Discomfort in Ruling Party Over Prime Minister’s Family Involvement in Government Deals<\/strong><\/p>\n

Opposition MP Richard Lewis highlighted growing discomfort within the ruling Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) concerning Prime Minister Gaston Browne’s involvement of his family in government deals. Lewis expressed concern that such practices could be detrimental to the government’s credibility and management of taxpayers’ funds.<\/p>

Lewis stated, “There is discomfort within the ABLP regarding the Prime Minister involving his family with government deals.”<\/p>

He noted that some party members are uneasy with the situation, as everything appears to revolve around the Prime Minister and his family, raising questions about transparency and ethical governance.<\/p>\n

He emphasized the need for accountability, stating, “We’re not going to let it rest. The Prime Minister has to answer because this affects not only him but also the management and board of West Indies Oil Company.”<\/p>

Lewis called for scrutiny into the shareholders of the company, highlighting questions about ownership percentages and potential conflicts of interest.<\/p>\n

The opposition MP also raised broader concerns about potential hidden activities within the government, urging a deeper investigation into other undisclosed matters.<\/p>

He stressed the importance of transparency and accountability in managing public assets, stating, “We’re talking about the assets of the people of Antigua and Barbuda that he has to give account for.”<\/p>
