Antigua,<\/strong>\u00a0In a decisive move to strategically engage, listen to and empower young women across the Caribbean, the Sandals Foundation partnered with Sandals Corporate University and the Learning and Development Team at Sandals Resorts International to inspire more than seven-hundred young women.<\/p>\n

Through a series of uniquely curated sessions for teenage girls and young adults, a contingent of approximately 60 volunteers visited high schools, learning centers and girls\u2019 homes across eight islands to explore the importance of training and education to make their mark in the world.<\/p>

\u201cSince the theme for IWD is \u201cInspire Inclusion\u201d we wanted to focus on the importance of education and training for growth, confidence and self-esteem to ensure that our young women are ready to take their place in the workplace and society,\u201d says Dr. Luz Longsworth, Senior Corporate Director, Sandals Corporate University.<\/p>

Using personal stories and experiences as anecdotal lessons of transformation, the Sandals Corporate University and foundation team sparked enthusiasm and honest interaction from the targeted young women who engaged in a series of carefully curated activities.<\/p>\n

Heidi Clarke, Executive Director at Sandals Foundation said \u201cas we enter our 15th year of operation, the Sandals Foundation is placing sharp focus on tangible ways we can empower lives in every respect.<\/p>

We were delighted by the enthusiasm shown by the Sandals Corporate University to partner with us on this initiative, bringing their expertise to the lesson development for this special day.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOur young women are powerful beyond measure with sometimes only needing a guide to help direct their path,\u201d Clarke continued, \u201cAnd as a Caribbean organization, it is our duty to lend our resources, time, and expertise to empower the next generation in any way we can.\u201d<\/p>

Here in Antigua and Barbuda, topics of individuality and self-expression, self-discipline and perseverance, self-care, self-growth, and overcoming life\u2019s challenges were covered as over one hundred girls at the All Saints Secondary School took part in the morning session on March 07th.<\/p>\n

Business subjects teacher and the liaison officer for the project, Joshuanette Francis shared that \u201cthe experience was a life-changing experience for the students who were really engaged and excited to be a part of the session.<\/p>\n

The issues addressed were very timely as we got insight into the day to day challenges our young ladies are faced with and positive outlets to address those challenges\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cThe most exciting part of the session was when we had to work together in groups to create a song that captured the key takeaways from the presentation.<\/p>\n

We had to use key words like love, self-esteem and success to drive home the message of positive self-development to our peers that resonated well with us,\u201d a 15-year-old student involved in the session added.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The women\u2019s empowerment sessions form part of the Sandals Foundation\u2019s Women Helping Others Achieve (WHOA) Programme which provides mentorship, education, training and other tools needed to help marginalized women across the Caribbean find inspiration and strength to advance and transform their personal and professional lives.<\/p>\n

On March 18, the Sandals Foundation will commemorate 15 years of empowering Caribbean communities with a mission to inspire hope.<\/p>\n
