The government says it is still considering a budget for the country’s first referendum on November 6.<\/p>

The budget has apparently not been confirmed with two months to go before the exercise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Thursday, Cabinet held a discussion on the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) and the need to bring more information to the public on the operations of the apex court. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Cabinet was reminded that in 37 years of independence, only 30 cases have been brought from Antigua and Barbuda to the Privy Council. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Two-thirds of those cases,<\/g> or nearly 20 of the 30 cases had been correctly adjudged by the High Court of Antigua and Barbuda. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The cost of getting to the Privy Council was almost ten times the cost of access to the CCJ; the citizens of Antigua and Barbuda have already paid their US$10 million dollars to the CCJ Trust Fund in order to guarantee its inoculation from political interference.”<\/p>

The judges who sit on the CCJ are selected by a Judicial and Legal Services Committee which draws its membership from a wide cross-section of non-governmental institutions.<\/p>\n
