St. John\u2019s, Antigua \u2013 7 March 2024 \u2014<\/em>Approximately 100 women are expected to gather at Freedom Hall on Friday as the Antigua and Barbuda Workers\u2019 Union observes International Women’s Day 2024. The event, which has become a staple on the Union\u2019s annual Calendar of Activities, will bring together a wide cross-section of women from multiple sectors and industries.<\/p>

 <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

This year\u2019s event takes the form of a seminar and is being held under the theme: Count Her in:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Invest in Her: Accelerate Progress<\/strong>, in keeping with the United Nations International Women\u2019s<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Day theme.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Training officer at the Antigua and Barbuda Workers\u2019 Union, Hazel Luke, says the seminar will focus on the inclusion of women, particularly with respect to economic empowerment and access to advanced health care as a means of accelerating progress. \u201cThis seminar is an opportunity for our members to capitalize on the knowledge and experiences of other women as we seek to broaden perspectives on collective participation in community and nation,\u201d Luke shared.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

ABWU General Secretary, David Massiah, says the annual event is one way that the Union demonstrates its commitment to advancing women in the world of work. \u201cWithin the global Union movement, there is a massive thrust towards the empowerment of women through inclusion and by investing in them. It is through events such as this that we amplify the conversations and initiate actions that will improve the experiences of women,\u201d Massiah explained. \u201cThis event is only the precursor to another major event later this year \u2013 The 200 Woman Conference! This will solidify our efforts to strengthen our organization by expanding opportunities for women to contribute and have their voices registered at the decision-making level,\u201d Massiah noted.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The most recent statistics from the Union\u2019s database reveal that its membership comprises more than 60% women. Additionally, women have historically played a vibrant role on the Union\u2019s Executive Body.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Friday\u2019s seminar will feature presentations by accomplished women in various disciplines across Antigua & Barbuda. Among the topics to be explored are: \u201cEconomic Empowerment and Inclusivity\u201d and \u201cAccelerating Progress through Accessibility to Advanced Health Care\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Antigua and Barbuda Workers\u2019 Union uses this opportunity to commend its partners for their overwhelming show of support and cooperation by allowing invited employees the necessary time off to participate in the seminar.<\/p>\n
