Literacy Festival focuses on Communities, Listening &Spelling<\/u><\/strong><\/p>

The National Literacy Festival 2024 organised by the Ministry of Education, Sports and Creative Industries will place emphasis on literacy within communities and the importance of listening and spelling.<\/p>\n

Director of Education, Clare Browne, has called on schools to execute \u201cactivities that will impact the communities of their location in a powerful way,\u201d on Friday, 8th<\/sup> March, 2024.<\/p>

In a communiqu\u00e9 addressed to principals of public and private secondary schools, Director Browne proposed the hosting of literacy fairs, marches, workshops and other planned events under the theme: \u201cPromoting literacy in our communities for a sustainable tomorrow\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The director of education believes the National Literacy Festival, which forms part of the activities in observance of Education Month, 2024, creates an avenue \u201cto raise awareness and concern for the many literacy challenges and problems that exist in our local communities and are evident among students\u201d.<\/p>\n

In public and primary schools throughout Antigua and Barbuda, the literacy festival will highlight the importance of listening and spelling under the theme: \u201cPromoting literacy for personal growth \u2013 Effective listening and spelling for all\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>

\u201cThis year, we have decided that based on our observations and the performance of students in the National Assessments, it is crucial that we underscore the need for effective listening and conventional spelling,\u201d Education Officer-Language Arts, Dr. Desryn Collins informed primary school principals.<\/p>\n

Education Month 2024 commenced on Monday 5th<\/sup> March, 2024 and is being observed under the theme: \u201cRe-Imaging Education, Colouring Outside Lines\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>
