Real News: In line with the recent amendments to the Public Health Act, the
\nMinistry of Health has issued a press release notifying the family of
\nsix deceased men \u2013 some of whose bodies have been unclaimed for
\nyears \u2013 that their burials will take place if the corpses are not
\nclaimed.<\/p>\n

In September 2023, the Houses of Parliament approved a Bill that
\nauthorizes funeral homes to bury unclaimed bodies after a specified
\ntime.<\/p>\n

According to the Act, \u201cWhere any human corpse \u2026 remains
\nunclaimed for more than fourteen days, the director of the funeral
\nhome or the person in charge of the authorized place for keeping
\nhuman corpses shall obtain permission from the Chief Public Health
\nInspector to bury or cremate such corpse.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, the Office of the Chief Health Inspector is advising the public of
\nthe names of the deceased and the dates of their passing:<\/p>\n

Nathaniel Andrew, who died on December 28, 2021; Dequan
\nCummings, who died on January 12, 2022; Renol Delva, whose death
\nis recorded as September 23, 2021; Anderson Quinland, who passed
\non September 18, 2022; Edward Sylvester, who departed this life on
\nDecember 6, 2021; and Kimo Lee who passed away on October 18,
\n2022.<\/p>\n

All the corpses are being kept in storage at the Barnes Funeral
\nHome.<\/p>\n

In order to avoid these bodies being summarily buried within 14
\ndays, family members are asked to contact Jessica Barnes, the
\nmanaging director of the funeral home, on lower Newgate Street, to
\narrange for private ceremonies.<\/p>\n

If relatives fail to show up at the funeral home after this notice, the
\npress release advises, the Government will take the appropriate
\naction and have the bodies interred at a public cemetery without
\nfurther notice.<\/p>\n

The families are advised that legal action after burial of their
\nrelatives is not an option, since the amendments to the\u00a0Public Health
\nAct authorize the Government to take this action.<\/p>\n
