The National Office of Disaster Services today defended its decision to evict Hurricane Irma victims saying that they have a Sports Complex to go to in Barbuda.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

According to NODS, the complex has been earmarked as a shelter for Barbudans who evacuated from the island, can house Barbuda residents who remain at the National Technical Training Centre (NTTC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) said it has equipped the Sports Complex with the necessary amenities needed to facilitate the Barbudans. There are also separate rooms that can accommodate families.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Some occupants of the NTTC are adamant that they will not leave the facility as there is nowhere for them to go. However, NODS notes that this is not true. Presently, the shelter in Barbuda is under occupied and can accommodate up to 35 individuals.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

In response to the unsanitary conditions that have been noted by one occupant at his home in Barbuda, NODS has provided cleaning supplies to Barbuda to help residents clean their properties. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

NODS had given the occupants at NTTC a deadline of Friday 31st<\/sup> August to return to Barbuda, with the assistance of NODS or find alternative housing here in Antigua on their own.<\/p>

Several families with varying challenges have been staying at the facility. Some have found accommodation here in Antigua and left the shelter over the weekend. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two other families in the process of finding properties to rent have been given until Wednesday to relocate. If they do not find somewhere to live in Antigua NODS will facilitate their trip back to Barbuda. – the end<\/em><\/strong> – <\/p>
