At a press conference held earlier today, Health Minister Sir Molwyn Joseph provided an update on the current health situation in Antigua and Barbuda, particularly concerning the outbreak of Dengue fever in the region.<\/p>

Minister Joseph began by acknowledging the presence of Dengue fever in the country, stating that there are currently 10 confirmed cases of Dengue fever in Antigua and Barbuda<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

However, he emphasized that there have been no reported deaths associated with the outbreak.<\/p>

Regarding the response to the outbreak, Minister Joseph highlighted the availability of testing for Dengue fever within the country’s Public Health System at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center.<\/p>

He also mentioned the support received from the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) for Dengue testing and expressed his appreciation for their continued assistance not only to Antigua and Barbuda but to the wider Caribbean region.<\/p>\n

Minister Joseph underscored that while Dengue fever is a primary concern, the Ministry of Health remains vigilant in testing for other infectious diseases.<\/p>

He noted that testing is also available for diseases such as Chikungunya, influenza A and B, and leptospirosis.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Minister Joseph reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to enhancing the country’s capacity for disease control, particularly in combating the Aedes aegypti mosquito.<\/p>

This mosquito species is known to be responsible for transmitting various viruses, including those associated with Dengue fever, Chikungunya, influenza, and leptospirosis.<\/p>
