However, these arrivals have yet to reach the levels seen in 2019, which was a record-breaking year for tourism. According to the latest data from the Antigua and Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association (ABHTA), December 2023 experienced a 14% decrease in arrivals compared to the figures from 2019.<\/p>\n

In December 2019, there were 37,818 visitor arrivals, with 41% (15,662) originating from the United States. In 2023, this figure dropped to 32,516, with 16,051 coming from the United States. This shift increased the U.S. share of the source market to 49%.<\/p>

The decline in December 2023 arrivals can be attributed to decreases in other source markets such as Canada, the UK, Europe, and the Caribbean. These declines may be linked to challenges in securing adequate airlifts from these source markets to the destination.<\/p>
