On the night of January 29, 2024, at around 11:56 pm, the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force (ABDF) Coast Guard received a distress call from the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) Fort-De-France about a ship that had run aground and was taking on water in Falmouth Harbour, carrying one person.<\/p>

In immediate response, the ABDF Coast Guard deployed for assistance.<\/p>\n

Simultaneously, an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast (UMIB) was transmitted on marine VHF Channel 16, urging nearby vessels to provide help.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>
\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Following the initial report, MRCC Fort De France confirmed the stranded vessel as S\/V ARCH ANGELS.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The ABDF Coast Guard was informed that the occupant, a French national, was located on the nearby rocks.<\/p>\n

Upon investigation, it was found that the grounded vessel was near Hudson Point (close to Willoughby Bay). Due to worsening sea conditions and limited visibility, the search was suspended until sunrise at 3:07 am.<\/p>

At 7:00 am, the ABDF Coast Guard returned to Willoughby Bay to assist the person in distress.<\/p>\n

During the operation, they sought support from ABSAR for the recovery effort.<\/p>

ABSAR transported the individual to Falmouth Harbour around 10:00 am, where he received medical attention for minor cuts and bruises.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Later, he was taken to Coast Guard Base, Deep Water Harbour for further investigation.<\/p>\n

The vessel remains partially submerged outside Hudson Point, and mariners are advised to take necessary precautions when navigating in the area.<\/p>\n

The ABDF Coast Guard emphasizes the importance of cautious navigation in unfamiliar waters and urges mariners to stay updated on prevailing weather conditions.<\/p>\n
