The government is considering a proposal to privatize several carnival shows now organised by the Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission.<\/p>

Coming out of this week\u2019s Cabinet meeting the Festivals Minister Daryl Matthew was given the authority to act to implement changes for the 2019 Carnival. <\/p>

\u201cThe cost of funding carnival each year is becoming far too burdensome for the Treasury of Antigua and Barbuda\u201d the government has said.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnother model\u2014which is sustainable\u2014is to be adopted immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cabinet decided that the Festivals Commission will focus upon the weekend leading to last lap, and place major effort in attracting many visitors to Antigua and to the performances during that five-day period.<\/p>

At last count, close to seven million dollars was owed to carnival service providers and others dating back many years.<\/p>\n
