Statement on Antigua and Barbuda Support for the \u2018One China\u2019 Policy<\/em><\/strong><\/p>

The Government of Antigua and Barbuda, from the time of independence in 1981 has always supported the \u2018One China policy\u2019 and has never shifted allegiance to the Peoples Republic of China.<\/p>

Following the recent elections held in Taiwan, Antigua and Barbuda reaffirms its long-standing support for and commitment to the \u201cOne China Policy\u201d which is a\u00a0universal consensus of the international community, that there is but one China in the world and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China, and the Government of the People\u2019s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China.<\/p>

The outcome of the elections held in the Province of Taiwan should not alter the dynamic process and future direction of cross-strait relations.<\/p>\n

Antigua and Barbuda reaffirm its commitment to the non-interference in internal affairs of sovereign states as an important principle enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations and a basic norm governing international relations. We further adhere to the General Assembly Resolution 2758 of 1971 that recognize the People\u2019s Republic of China as the only legitimate representatives of China to the United Nations.<\/p>

As a true friend and development partner Antigua and Barbuda supports the efforts of the People\u2019s Republic of China toward \u2018national reunification based on the \u2018One-China Policy\u2019 and remains steadfast to maintaining good relations and positive engagement for the mutual benefits of our two countries.<\/p>\n
