Lieutenant Colonel Pennyfeather explained that periodic searches are essential as inmates sometimes manage to acquire prohibited items.<\/p>

The recent search, conducted in collaboration with the police and military, aimed to proactively address this issue.<\/p>\n

The confiscated items, including a notable number of cell phones and weapons, were discovered as part of the routine efforts to maintain a secure and controlled environment within the prison facility.<\/p>

“From time to time, inmates acquire things, and searches are necessary,” stated Lieutenant Colonel Pennyfeather. “The search on the 7th was scheduled in cooperation with the police and military. As indicated, we found a number of items, including cell phones, weapons, altered sharp instruments, lighters, and various electronic devices.”<\/p>\n

When asked about the purpose of such searches, Lieutenant Colonel Pennyfeather clarified that the primary objective is to recover illegal items rather than for prosecution purposes. However, if during the search, they come across any exceptionally concerning items, such as a substantial amount of drugs or a firearm, the appropriate legal actions will be taken.<\/p>

The prison official also highlighted the measures in place to address the issue of contraband within the facility. “When we have targeted intelligence or information regarding inmates, we act accordingly. Large-scale searches, like the one on the 7th, are designed to recover illegal items,” he explained.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Lieutenant Colonel Pennyfeather discussed ongoing efforts to enhance the rehabilitation center within the prison. He mentioned the recent establishment of CCTV cameras, emphasizing their importance in constant monitoring and ensuring the safety and security of the facility.<\/p>\n

“We have just recently established CCTV cameras, and they’re backup and functional. Thanks to the collaboration between the government and Digicel, the CCTV cameras are now in place to facilitate constant monitoring,” he stated.<\/p>\n
