The Cabinet noted concerns from a\u00a0number of residents in various communities where overgrown, abandoned private properties\u00a0are posing\u00a0health and\u00a0safety concerns.<\/p>\n

The Cabinet therefore\u00a0examined and have asked the Development Control Authority (DCA) to enforce\u00a0Section 47 of\u00a0the Physical Planning Act\u00a0<\/em>which provides the DCA\u00a0with the authority to issue Amenity Orders to\u00a0private property\u00a0owners, directing them to\u00a0remove bushes and\/or\u00a0derelict properties that pose a health or\u00a0security risk\u00a0within 28 days\u2019<\/p>

Notice. \u00a0Failing which, the Authority will proceed with the cleaning and will bill the owner, as provided for under the Act.<\/p>

Also discussed was a possible amendment to the legislation to provide for if\u00a0an owner, having received the Notice of the intention of the DCA\u00a0to remove the unwanted vegetation, pay land taxes, and dispose of the derelict property, does not respond, then the government may sell the land to cover costs that exceed 50% of the value of the land.<\/p>\n
