In protest to the length of time given to them the prepare for the 2024 budget debate in parliament, members of the opposition United Progressive Party did not show up to the budget debate today.<\/p>

A motion last week set the debate on the budget presented by Prime Minister Gaston Browne on Friday, to Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The opposition MPs presented a counter motion for Thursday which was defeated.<\/p>

They argue that one weekend is not enough time to consider the budget and prepare their presentations.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

They are expected in Parliament this week.<\/p>\n

Government MP’s have criticized their decision.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The debate on the budget is now at a record pace since only government MP’s are there to present without the usual cross-talk.<\/p>\n

So far, 4 government MP’s have made their presentation on the budget.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

They are Sports Minister Daryl Matthew, Housing Minister Maria Browne, Tourism Minister Max Fernandez and Foreign Affairs Minister EP Chet Greene.<\/p>

At this pace, it is likely that the debate may be concluded very early.<\/p>\n
