AP- LONDON (AP) \u2014 Oxford University Press has named \u201crizz\u2033 as its word of the year, highlighting the popularity of a term used by Generation Z to describe someone\u2019s ability to attract or seduce another person.<\/p>

It topped \u201cSwiftie\u201d (an enthusiastic fan of Taylor Swift), \u201csituationship\u201d (an informal romantic or sexual relationship) and \u201cprompt\u201d (an instruction given to an artificial intelligence program) in the annual decision by experts at the publisher of the multivolume Oxford English Dictionary.<\/p>\n

The four finalists were selected by a public vote and the winner was announced on Monday.<\/p>

Rizz is believed to come from the middle of the word charisma, and can be used as a verb, as in to \u201crizz up,\u201d or chat someone up, the publisher said.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cIt speaks to how younger generations create spaces \u2014 online or in person \u2014 where they own and define the language they use,\u201d the publisher said. \u201cFrom activism to dating and wider culture, as Gen Z comes to have more impact on society, differences in perspectives and lifestyle play out in language, too.\u201d<\/p>\n

American publisher Merriam-Webster included \u201crizz\u201d on its list of the year\u2019s top words but gave\u00a0first place to \u201cauthentic.\u201d<\/a><\/span><\/p>
