I have been reading the news about UHSA<\/g> over the months,\u00a0and\u00a0I decided that it is time that some of us who are still here should speak up.\u00a0\u00a0I think our present situation is what happens in business.\u00a0\u00a0We were all involved in preparing for our school\u2019s accreditation.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Buildings\u00a0were finished.\u00a0\u00a0I saw more faculty hired than ever before.\u00a0\u00a0We had a new standardized patient lab built.\u00a0\u00a0We all enjoyed the progress. When the hurricanes hit last year, we started to be affected because most of our students are from Puerto Rico.\u00a0\u00a0We saw a very low enrollment in January. That is what happened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0I am still here because I believe in our school and I believe in the Akande family. They have had meetings with us, sent emails,\u00a0and\u00a0Dr.\u00a0Akande is always available in her office,\u00a0or\u00a0you can talk to her when she is walking around the campus.\u00a0\u00a0Mr.\u00a0Akande has put so much technology into our school that everyone can\u00a0be reached\u00a0at any time.\u00a0\u00a0We have an overload of information. Sometimes,\u00a0if\u00a0necessary, employees go to talk to\u00a0Dr.\u00a0Akande at her dental office in town. I can say that\u00a0they\u00a0are still trying to help us through this period.\u00a0<\/p>

Then I noted the attacks on\u00a0Dr.\u00a0Akande\u2019s Christianity. A few years ago, I met a homeless man that\u00a0she\u00a0took off the street and helped to get on his feet.\u00a0\u00a0Right now, as I write, the Akandes have a young lady living with them from Gray\u2019s Farm that they support through college.\u00a0\u00a0We all see this young lady at the school when she comes home.\u00a0<\/p>

\u00a0She is an A student.\u00a0\u00a0The Akandes started the Free Clinic in English Harbour.\u00a0\u00a0That clinic has treated, I believe close to 600 people for free.\u00a0\u00a0We, the employees can also go there for treatment.\u00a0\u00a0How many of us have done any of\u00a0this?\u00a0\u00a0The attacks on\u00a0Dr.\u00a0Akande\u2019s Christianity and on her son need to stop.\u00a0This\u00a0is a business just like any other business.\u00a0\u00a0Things happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The administration has told us that they are working on all of this and that and our present situation should turn around shortly.\u00a0\u00a0Yes, it is difficult. We all understand that.\u00a0\u00a0But I have been here for many years,\u00a0and\u00a0I have been a part of the growth and improvements.\u00a0\u00a0I have enjoyed working here,\u00a0and\u00a0I am not moving.<\/p>
