Prime Minister Gaston Browne is calling on residents to take pride in their communities and actively contribute to maintaining a clean environment. The appeal follows a successful community clean-up organized by members of St. John\u2019s City West community yesterday morning.<\/p>\n

Expressing concern over the diminishing pride in the surroundings, Prime Minister Browne emphasized that citizens have been neglecting their civic duty, evident in the improper disposal and dumping of garbage in public spaces.<\/p>

\u201cWe continue to violate our environment by the dumping and harvesting of garbage in our surroundings,\u201d stated PM Browne during his radio show.<\/p>

Encouraging a shift in behavior, Prime Minister Browne urged individuals to take responsibility for their waste, emphasizing the need to eliminate littering and properly dispose of garbage. He proposed the reinforcement of teaching civic duty in schools at both the primary and secondary levels and advocated for public education campaigns to instill a sense of civic pride.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on his childhood experiences with his specially-abled mother, PM Browne shared that littering was strictly prohibited in his home, reinforcing the idea of respecting green spaces. He called on property owners to maintain cleanliness on their premises, indicating that legislation is in the works to address environmental concerns related to unkept houses and lands.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Browne also directed attention to the issue of derelict vehicles on the roads, urging the Central Board of Health (CBH) to collaborate in keeping such vehicles off the streets. While stressing the importance of enforcing existing environmental laws, PM Browne proposed the creation of committees and the collaboration of community groups to organize clean-up initiatives, tree planting, and beautification projects.<\/p>\n
