International Men’s Day calls for \u2018Zero Male Suicide\u2019 as it reminds men\u00a0that it\u2019s okay to talk<\/h1>\n

Today is International Men\u2019s Day \u2013 a day celebrated on Novemver 19 every year to raise awareness about the health and well-being of men and boys and to highlight the everyday issues that they face.<\/p>\n

\n

The theme for 2023 is ”Zero Male Suicide,” a reminder of the disproportionately high rate of suicide among men. As suicide has been found to be the biggest killer of men under the age of 45, International Men’s Day aims to create a space for men to talk about mental health.<\/p>

Throughout November\u00a0Lancashire<\/a> and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust (LSCft) is encouraging men to speak about their mental health and seek help and support. LSCft want to highlight November as an important time to talk about men\u2019s mental health, work towards reducing stigma, changing societal expectations and increase the likelihood of support uptake among men.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Research from the Mental Health Foundation found that approximately one in eight men have a common mental health problem such as anxiety, stress or depression, but worryingly over 40 per cent of males say they have never spoken to anyone about their mental health.<\/p>
