\nclearing period for the Christmas Barrel Initiative has been reduced;
\nand the Browne Administration complains that it has no money \u2013
\nand, yet, taxpayers could be saddled with paying for another \u201cOne
\nNation Concert.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a Facebook post, Prime Minister Gaston Browne has suggested a
\nslate of artistes who might be contracted to perform at the annual
\nconcert, usually held in January.<\/p>

The list includes renowned Jamaican artistes Beenie Man and Beres
\nHammond and Trinidadian soca diva Patrice.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

However, the response to the announcement of what used to be a
\nmuch-anticipated concert was a barrage of criticism.<\/p>\n

Most of those who responded to Browne were of the opinion that
\nthe taxpayers\u2019 money should be better used for things such as
\nimplementing the ABST-free weekend; fixing the poor infrastructure
\nand the ailing health sector; paying overtime and other emoluments
\nowed to public servants; repairing the police stations; and
\naddressing the water crisis.<\/p>

Persons commented that the artistes mentioned were very costly
\nand there was no need for this concert given the state of the
\neconomy.<\/p>\n

Since the Administration is contemplating an increase of 2 percent
\non the ABST rate \u2013 from 15 to 17 percent \u2013 in order to meet salary
\nincreases, some critics are asking from what source the money to
\nhost this concert will be drawn.<\/p>

Some people say the government would be wicked to have people
\nstarving while hosting an event that would cost millions of dollars \u2013
\nwhich would not be circulated in the country\u2019s economy.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Some note that, while it is being advertised as a free concert, it is
\nactually a cost to the people through the ABST and other taxes or
\nport charges.<\/p>\n

It appears, however, that the prime minister has removed the post,
\ngiven the barrage of criticism from members of the public.<\/p>\n

Again, PM Browne seems to have been testing the waters, a source
