The Beach Safety and Security Unit within the Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Transportation, and Investment commenced a special lifeguard instructor and examiner course in collaboration with the Canadian Life Saving Society yesterday (Monday).\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Twelve individuals are set to undergo training, with two of them coming from the Montserrat Police Service, specifically Kelroy Huggins and Sherman Valmont. <\/span><\/p>\n

Among these 12, Mr. Peter Slowe and Mr. Mclean Lawrence supervisors within the BSSU, will receive specialized training in the examiners course. <\/span><\/p>

This training initiative reflects a diverse group with the shared goal of enhancing their skills and expertise.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The purpose of this special training is to ensure that the unit\u2019s lifeguards are well-trained and knowledgeable about water safety and rescue techniques.<\/span><\/p>\n

Upon completion, participants will be certified lifeguard instructors and examiners, enabling them to train and assess new lifeguards, which is essential for maintaining high safety standards.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

During the brief opening ceremony, the Minister of Tourism, Hon. Charles Fernandez, recognized the members of the BSSU for their dedication and commitment to protecting both locals and visitors as they enjoy the nation\u2019s beaches. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe salute the unwavering dedication of the Beach Safety and Security Unit, whose commitment to safeguarding our visitors and supporting our tourism industry is truly commendable. Their professionalism and tireless efforts have a far-reaching and positive impact on the safety and well-being of all who enjoy our beautiful shores,\u201d the minister said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Permanent Secretary within the Ministry of Tourism and Investment, Mr. Walter Christopher, echoed the Minister\u2019s sentiments and emphasized the potential of the participants in making a significant contribution to the success of Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s Tourism Industry.<\/span><\/p>

He encouraged them to embrace their roles as beach safety ambassadors, underscoring the importance of ongoing education and continued training.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Elroy Daley, Manager of the BSSU, stated that the unit is committed to ensuring the well-being of beachgoers, promoting responsible behavior, and equipping the public with essential lifesaving skills. \u201cOur continued progress is evident in our 21-year journey, which has seen significant improvements in beach safety and security,\u201d Mr. Daley continued.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The National Trainer of the Canadian Life Saving Society and facilitator of the special training, Mr. Patrick Delmada, acknowledged the efforts of the Ministry of Tourism and Investment in making the collaboration happen. <\/span><\/p>\n

He continued to stress the importance of leadership at all levels and commended the attendees for their commitment to the cause. Mr. Delmada also expressed his commitment to creating self-sustaining local programs and with the upcoming formation of the Caribbean Life Saving Association, he believes it unites each country towards this goal.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
