Ahead of Independence Day, November 1st, constituents of St. John City South are opposing the nomination of their parliamentary representative, Attorney-General Steadroy \u201cCutie\u201d Benjamin, for a knighthood.<\/p>\n

A petition of 80 signatures has been delivered to the chairperson of the National Honour and Awards Committee, urging for reconsideration of the bestowal of this national honour on Benjamin.<\/p>

\"\"<\/div>\n

Residents question the motivation for this award in light of the deteriorating living conditions in St. John\u2019s City South under Benjamin\u2019s 30-year tenure as the representative.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

They also posit that by awarding Benjamin such an high honour,\u00a0 despite his poor track record of performance cheapens the concept of national service.<\/p>\n

They believe that it also diminishes the accomplishments of other deserving recipients.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Constituents cite alleged involvement in nefarious activities; charges of criminal conduct; bad advice provided to the Government; and poor representation of the people as the main reasons why Benjamin is unfit for such a high honour.<\/p>\n
