Tammy is moving \r\ntoward the north-northwest near 10 mph (17 km\/h) and this general \r\nmotion is expected through today, followed by a turn toward the \r\nnorth or north-northeast on Monday.  On the forecast track, the \r\ncenter of Tammy will move further away from the northernmost Leeward \r\nIslands later today.\r\n\r\nMaximum sustained winds are near 85 mph (140 km\/h) with higher \r\ngusts. Some strengthening is possible today followed by fluctuations \r\nin strength thereafter.\r\n\r\nHurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the\r\ncenter and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 140 miles\r\n(220 km).\r\n\r\nThe estimated minimum central pressure is 992 mb (29.30 inches).\r\n\r\n\r\nHAZARDS AFFECTING LAND\r\n----------------------\r\nKey messages for Tammy can be found in the Tropical Cyclone\r\nDiscussion under AWIPS header MIATCDAT5 and WMO header WTNT45 KNHC\r\nand on the web at hurricanes.gov\/text\/MIATCDAT5.shtml\r\n\r\nWIND:  Hurricane conditions are expected over portions of the\r\nnorthernmost Leeward Islands for the next few hours.\r\n\r\nRAINFALL: Tammy is expected to produce the following storm total\r\nrainfall:\r\n\r\nLeeward Islands: 4 to 8 inches with storm total maximum amounts of\r\n12 inches\r\n\r\nMartinique and Dominica: An additional 2 to 4 inches, with storm\r\ntotal maximum of 6 inches\r\n\r\nBritish and U.S. Virgin Islands into eastern Puerto Rico: 1 to 2\r\ninches with maximum storm total amounts of 4 inches\r\n\r\nThese rains may produce isolated flash and urban flooding, along\r\nwith isolated mudslides in areas of higher terrain.\r\n\r\nSTORM SURGE:  Storm surge could raise water levels by as much as 1\r\nto 3 feet above normal tide levels near where the center of Tammy\r\nmoves across the Leeward Islands.  Near the coast, the surge will\r\nbe accompanied by large and dangerous waves.\r\n\r\nSURF:  Swells generated by Tammy will continue to affect portions of\r\nthe Lesser Antilles during the next few days.
