With the anticipated level of rainfall associated with Hurricane Tammy, t<\/span><\/span>he National Office <\/span><\/span>of Disaster Services (NODS) is advising all residents living in areas that flood and are known to flood to move to higher ground early.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Some of these areas would have been greatly affected by the recent weather associated with Tropical Storm Philippe.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>
\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\n

Considering that the earth would have already been saturated the risk for flooding would be great.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\n

Residents in flood prone areas, low-lying areas and well-known flood areas should heed the warning and move.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n

If going to a public shelter, individuals must walk with<\/span><\/span> canned and other<\/span><\/span> food<\/span><\/span>s that do not require heating<\/span><\/span>, water, <\/span><\/span>blankets<\/span><\/span> and sheets that could be used as bedding, <\/span><\/span>toiletries, clothing, other personal items, medication, if required<\/span><\/span>. If children, babies, <\/span><\/span>elderly<\/span><\/span> and special need individuals are part of the family make sure supplies are available for them. <\/span><\/span><\/p>

NODS also advises <\/span><\/span>persons<\/span><\/span> to have a battery-operated or re-chargeable radio to keep abreast of the latest updates on the weather, <\/span><\/span>flashlight<\/span><\/span> and extra batteries, if required, and a first-aid kit.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A public shelter is managed by a team of volunteers and occupants will be required to adhere to certain rules. <\/span><\/span><\/p>
