Tonight\u2019s Rally at the Bolans Playing Field, hosted by the United Progressive Party (UPP), has been canceled due to the already inclement weather ahead of Tropical Storm Tammy.<\/em><\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The Party\u2019s Leadership and its candidate for St. Mary\u2019s South, Kelvin \u201cShugy\u201d Simon, have agreed that safety must be the priority, and therefore have cancelled their much-anticipated final public meeting before next Tuesday\u2019s by-election.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

After the storm, the UPP will assess the situation and advise supporters of any plans for public gatherings ahead of the October 24 poll.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Meanwhile, it is possible that, by the time Tammy<\/em> reaches Antigua and Barbuda tomorrow, Friday, October 20, the storm could have been upgraded to hurricane status.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

Therefore, the UPP is encouraging all residents to use today, Thursday, October 19, to make preparations for the safety and security of their families, homes, and businesses \u2013 while electricity and, possibly, water services are still available.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Party also encourages those persons who live in low-lying and flood-prone areas to secure their properties as far as possible and make plans for possible evacuation. This appeal is especially aimed at families living in the West Palm Beach<\/em> area of Bolans; the Upper Fort Road <\/em>and Yorks <\/em>communities; Bendals<\/em> and Bathlodge<\/em>; Perry Bay<\/em>; and other vulnerable neighbourhoods in the Rural West<\/em> and Rural South<\/em> constituencies.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, the Party exhorts all residents to be careful, to be safe, to stay off the roads during the storm, and to follow the instructions of the agencies in charge of operations.<\/p>\n
