Member of Parliament for Barbuda Trevor Walker today endorsed a decision by the Barbuda Council to begin roof repairs on the Holy Trinity School without the government.<\/p>

\u201cAs the chairperson responsible for education in Barbuda, I stand by the motto of HTS that a Sound Education Makes An Intelligent Nation,\u201d Walker wrote on his official Facebook Page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The youth arm of the Barbuda Peoples Movement said, after being called redundant by the Prime Minister, “it\u2019s clear, that is not the case where the Barbuda Council is concerned.”<\/p>

It said in a statement that the government has not acted in an appropriate time frame by making preparations for the completion of the Holy Trinity original structures for the upcoming term. <\/p>

\u201cHowever, the Barbuda Council had to be proactive to ensure that a stable and spacious environment is established to accommodate children for the upcoming school year,\u201d the youth arm said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government says the Dominican Republic is to commence building a replacement school for the\u00a0Holy\u00a0Trinity\u00a0Primary School in Codrington that was destroyed by Hurricane Irma.<\/p>

The National Office of Disaster Services said last month that work has begun on temporary classrooms to facilitate the relocation of the Holy Trinity Primary School on Barbuda for the new school year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Six classrooms along with facilities for the principal, staff and bathrooms will be constructed to house the primary school on the premises of Low School, which is west of the former location of Holy Trinity. In addition, two classrooms will be added to the Sir Mc Chesney George Secondary School.<\/p>

Contractors from Barbuda along with workers from the Barbuda Council are undertaking the work which should be completed in time for September.<\/p>
