<\/b>The Rotary Club of Antigua on Thursday unveiled a symbolic \u201cPeace Pole\u201d on Thursday in recognition of the United Nations International Day of Peace.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

From a local perspective, as People of Action, the Rotary Club of Antigua reiterates international calls to make Peace Day a meaningful experience personally and at every level of Rotary.<\/span><\/p>\n

In speaking at a brief dedication ceremony under this year\u2019s theme \u201cActions for Peace: Our Ambition for the #GlobalGoals\u201d, held at Rotary House\u2019s grounds, President Michael Spencer, explained that International Day of Peace is a significant part of Rotary International\u2019s calendar. <\/span>He further added that it symbolizes positive peace through attitudes, institutions, and structures that ultimately contributes to peaceful societies.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Immediate Past President, Ilean Ramsey, spoke on behalf of the Director of the Foundation Committee, Past President Denise Armstrong. She spoke to the importance of the symbolic pole. She explained that it <\/span>is\u00a0<\/span>an internationally recognized symbol of the hopes and dreams for persons around the world, bearing the message \u201cMay Peace Prevail on Earth\u201d in different languages on each of its four sides.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Vice President, Evangeline Allen, brought greetings in the absence of Assistant Governor, Diana Browne, in complimenting the Club on bringing the concept to fruition.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Past President of the Rotary Club of Antigua Sundown, Reverand Kingsley Lewis, President of the Rotaract Club, Sherwyn Greenidge and other members of the Rotary Club of Antigua were also in attendance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

International Day of Peace is commemorated globally on September 21<\/span>st<\/span> each year. In 1981, the UN General Assembly passed a unanimous resolution establishing The International Day of Peace (Peace Day) to commemorate and strengthen the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
