The Ministry of Education has recently appointed Mrs. Nicolette Francis as its Agricultural Science Education Officer and immediately after some assessment she recognized the urgent need to revamp the Agricultural Science Programme with some government schools.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

One of the schools that received an urgent intervention was the Buckleys Primary School.<\/p>\n

The process began with the revamping of a wooden structure once used as rabbit cages that were retrofitted and transformed into chicken coups.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>
\"\"<\/div>\n

The materials needed for the repairs were donated by Mr. Alan Osborne, owner of F & Y Feeds and the generous assistance of his carpenter Mr. Alistair Jacobs aka Twado, who did the repairs pro bono.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Both men are advocates who were eager to contribute towards the project and even more so towards the educating and molding of the youth, especially in Agriculture.<\/p>\n

After the repairs were completed and met the required standards Mr. Osborne also donated six (6) chicks to the school.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

F & Y Feeds is the local distributor of Hi-Pro Feeds imported from Jamaica for animals such as fowls, pigs, rabbits and horses.<\/p>\n

The outlet is located in the Betty\u2019s Hope area. \u201cI became interested in Agriculture from the young age of seven.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

That was when I was first exposed and had my own chickens. Additionally, one of the components of Hi-Pro Feeds is the educational aspect and fostering of youth involvement in the Agricultural sector,\u201d Mr. Osborne said.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

In the meantime, The Principal, staff and students of the Buckleys Primary are very excited about the project and anticipate much more to come.<\/p>\n

Mrs. Francis indicated that other work is in the pipelines which involves land clearing and preparation, fabric for the covering of the land and acquiring a water tank all in aid of the school\u2019s Agricultural Programme.<\/p>\n
