The Indian Government dispatched Ambassador Manpreet Vohra to Antigua and Barbuda to follow-up on the request by the Government of India for the extradition of Mr. Mehul Choksi, the CIP citizen of Antigua and Barbuda who is wanted by law enforcement authorities in India on fraud charges.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Ambassador Vohra flew into VC Bird\u00a0on Friday<\/span>\u00a0afternoon, August 3, 2018, and proceeded immediately to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he held a meeting with Foreign Minister E.P. Chet Greene and his team. He was accompanied by High Commissioner Venkatachalan Mahalingam, who is the accredited representative to Antigua and Barbuda, and who had\u00a0on Monday<\/span>\u00a0engaged PM Browne and his team on the Choksi matter. Dr. Pradip Choudhary, a senior legal consultant with the Government of India, also joined the meeting.<\/p>\n

Ambassador Manpreet Vohra, during his meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs E.P. Chet Greene and senior officials, informed that the Government of India was officially seeking the extradition of Mr. Mehul Choksi and he presented Minister Greene with the formal documentation requesting Choksi\u2019s extradition. Ambassador Vohra handed over a letter from the Minister of External Affairs of India, H.E. Sushma Swaraj, to Minister Greene which will begin the extradition process.<\/p>

\u2018I give you the assurance,\u2019 Minister Greene said, \u2018that the Government of Antigua and Barbuda will be a responsible actor and will cooperate with the Government of India in this matter. \u00a0There are procedural steps that need to be followed, but behind it all you will find in us a Government committed to the rule of law.\u2019<\/p>
