Boasting pink and white-sand beaches and clear blue waters, Antigua averaged a record-breaking\u00a0100,000 monthly visitors<\/a>\u00a0from January to March.<\/p>\n

Fernandez believes that the construction near Fort James<\/a>\u00a0will ramp up the region\u2019s abilities to cater to its growing number of visitors. \u201cBearing in mind that we will see more passengers coming into Antigua so we need to have more areas where the visitors can go and spend the day,\u201d he stated.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Antigua Beach Club by Royal Caribbean<\/h2>\n

In 2019, Royal Caribbean\u00a0signed a memorandum of understanding<\/a>\u00a0with the government of Antigua and Barbuda.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

Local officials hope the third addition to The Royal Beach Club Collection is for Royal Caribbean cruise ships. They hope to encourage the cruise line to make Antigua a home port for its cruise ships, including Oasis-class vessels that accommodate over 6,300 passengers.<\/p>\n

As expected, the project will have immense benefits to the local economy. \u201cThe economic impact into our economy is projected to be approximately $80 million from direct revenue to the government over the next 30 years and over $1 billion in indirect revenue during the same period,\u201d described Fernandez.<\/p>\n

The new Antigua Beach Club development will take place on a beachfront area near Fort James that is around half a mile long.<\/p>\n

Though initial estimates for the project ranged between $75 million and $100 million, Fernandez estimated that inflation in the construction industry would likely lead them to surpass the $100 million ceiling.<\/p>\n

Specific plans have yet to be released by Royal Caribbean. At this point, we know the company plans to offer regional dishes, live music, and water activities, creating an experience that highlights \u201cthe island\u2019s striking beaches with the cruise line\u2019s signature service and amenities.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fernandez also mentioned that they expect to finalize the plans before the end of the year, saying, \u201cBy the fourth quarter of this year, we should be in dialogue to finalize so that we can look to start [construction] in 2024.\u201d<\/p>\n
