The Oasis Class cruise ship, currently the world’s largest, is scheduled to make its much-anticipated arrival in St. John’s Harbour on January 2, 2024.<\/p>

Tourism Minister Charles Max Fernandez confirmed this plan, but it is contingent on the successful completion of the dredging operations in the harbor, which have faced delays due to the presence of stubborn volcanic rocks on the seabed.<\/p>\n

The dredging project has required the use of larger equipment to dislodge and clear the ocean floor, making it suitable for the massive Oasis Class cruise ship.<\/p>

Royal Caribbean, the ship’s operator, has expressed a firm commitment to ensuring the harbor has the required depth to safely accommodate the vessel before proceeding.<\/p>

According to Fernandez, substantial progress has been made, with the turning basin and a significant portion of the channel already completed.<\/p>\n

The current focus is on a specific area at the harbor entrance, and the project team has requested until the end of October to finalize all necessary work.<\/p>

Furthermore, Royal Caribbean has indicated its intention to move forward with a tourism development project at Fort James, aimed at providing amenities and attractions for passengers arriving aboard their vessels in St. John’s Harbour.<\/p>\n
