REAL NEWS: The Gaston Browne Administration continues to neglect its\u2028obligation to provide the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA)\u2028with the resources and equipment to provide a constant supply of\u2028potable water, says Damani Tabor, the United Progressive Party\u2028(UPP) public relations officer.<\/p>

Again, last Wednesday, September 6, the water problem was\u2028discussed by the Cabinet; but no meaningful solution seemed to\u2028have been found. Rather, the promises of more Reverse Osmosis\u2028(RO) Plants were regurgitated.<\/p>\n

Tabor recalls, however, that the Administration had blamed the\u2028water shortage on leaky pipes, and had considered engaging the\u2028services of a Barbadian company \u2013 INNOTECH \u2013to address this\u2028issue.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

He says this is yet to be done, and the APUA workers are not being\u2028supplied with the tools to do their jobs and to address the leaking\u2028pipes.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

And while the Cabinet continues to make promises about the\u2028construction of more desalination plants, Tabor says that just\u2028making such pronouncements is not enough, given that these things\u2028have been said several times already.<\/p>\n

Instead, he wants to know how soon this will be done and how long\u2028it will take for the work to be completed.<\/p>

In the meantime, some residents around the island are saying that\u2028for two weeks they have not had pipe-borne water for five\u2028consecutive days.<\/p>\n

If the UPP had been elected to office, Tabor says this water problem\u2028would have been seriously addressed. He points out that the Party\u2019s\u2028manifesto had offered several solutions to deal with the decades-old\u2028issue \u2014 which, almost 10 years ago, Prime Minister Gaston Browne\u2028had promised would be fixed within 14 days.<\/p>

APUA reportedly produces a little more than seven million gallons of\u2028water daily, while demand exceeds 11 million gallons a day.<\/p>

The Authority says that making up this shortfall will be achieved\u2028through the construction of a 3.5 million-gallon plant at Bethesda, in\u2028addition to adding several smaller plants at Fort James and Ffryes.<\/p>\n
