In the process, an officer discharges a firearm in the midst of\u2028moving traffic and pedestrians, many of whom had to run out of the\u2028way.<\/p>

The officer was shooting at Rashawn Shabazz, who reportedly had\u2028been throwing stones and being a nuisance to persons in the Perry\u2028Bay area, while being armed with a knife.<\/p>

Now, REAL News has received information that a 60-year-old All\u2028Saints man was nearly injured during the incident, and he has made\u2028a complaint to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).\u2028\u00a0\u2028It is alleged that the left side mirror of his Hyundai vehicle was\u2028struck by a stray bullet during the police operation on Lower Vivian\u2028Richards Street near the Bridge Service Station.<\/p>\n

A source says the man was fortunate that the bullet damaged only\u2028his vehicle and did not strike him. And she accuses the police officer\u2028of having been irresponsible as he tried to subdue the suspect, since\u2028other persons could have been seriously injured.\u2028\u00a0\u2028Even if the suspect had been deemed a threat to the public, the\u2028source says, discharging live rounds in a public space is dangerous.<\/p>

Further, she says, at the time he was shot, the mentally challenged\u2028man was running away, after having already struck the officer with a\u2028stone.<\/p>\n

This incident occurred at about 11:35 a.m. on the day in question.\u2028In a related incident, the mother of Rashawn Shabazz, the shooting\u2028victim, also reported to the Police that he had injured her earlier\u2028that morning, at about 4:50 a.m.<\/p>

The woman, a resident of No. 2 George Street, is alleged to have\u2028 telephoned the Grays Farm Police Station and complained that\u2028Shabazz had wounded her.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Officers reportedly went to the home, where the woman told them\u2028that her son had thrown a stone through her bedroom window and\u2028it had struck her at the back of the head.<\/p>\n

She was reportedly instructed, by the officers, to seek medical\u2028 attention for her injury.<\/p>\n

The officers also made observations of the damaged window and<\/p>\n

noted that two panes of louvre glass had been broken by the stone.<\/p>\n

A search reportedly was conducted for Shabazz, but he was\u2028nowhere to be found \u2013 until later that morning, when he was\u2028confronted and shot by the Police after menacing people in the Perry\u2028Bay area.<\/p>\n

Shabazz was shot in the lower abdominal area and has lost a kidney,\u2028which was damaged by a bullet. He remains a patient in stable\u2028condition at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre.<\/p>\n
