REAL NEWS: The young man who was shot by the Police on Thursday, August 31\u2028\u2013 in full view of the public \u2013 allegedly has been experiencing mental-\u2028health issues for some time and was once a patient at the Clarevue\u2028Psychiatric Hospital.<\/p>

Sources say he was discharged after the reported intervention of a\u2028close relative.<\/p>\n

According to reports, it was only four days ago that Rashawn\u2028\u201cTurtle\u201d Shabazz was released from His Majesty\u2019s Prison. There, he\u2028had been in solitary confinement due to his condition and perceived\u2028violent tendencies.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Thursday\u2019s altercation with the Police allegedly began in the Perry\u2028Bay area where, reports say, he was being a nuisance. Allegedly,\u2028Shabazz was armed with a long knife and was picking up stones and\u2028pelting them at individuals.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Apparently, the Police were called to defuse the situation. But when\u2028Shabazz reportedly became confrontational, he was shot \u2013 initially\u2028with rubber bullets \u2013 to subdue him.<\/p>\n

However, this did not take him down, and the altercation continued\u2028onto the Valley Road, in the vicinity of the service station and the\u2028Central Marketing Corporation. There, Shabazz was seen picking up\u2028a stone, which he pelted at one officer, striking him in the head.\u2028In a widely circulated video, the policeman can be seen drawing his\u2028weapon and discharging three shots in response.<\/p>

Shabazz was hit \u2013 how many times is not clear, however. But\u2028evidence of his injuries was visible on his shirt, where blood could\u2028be seen in the lower back and abdominal area. \u00a0\u00a0\u2028\u00a0\u2028Sources tell REAL News that, after being taken into custody, Shabazz\u2028underwent surgery, allegedly losing a kidney to damage by a bullet.\u2028\u00a0\u2028People are now asking why the young man \u2013 who is known to have\u2028mental-health issues \u2013 was released from prison in that fashion,\u2028instead of having him admitted to the Clarevue Psychiatric Hospital\u2028for treatment.<\/p>\n

This did not happen because a relative of the young man reportedly\u2028had been untruthful about a number of officials, including those at\u2028the psychiatric hospital and now-suspended Chief Magistrate Joanne\u2028Walsh.\u2028\u00a0\u2028Reports claim that, earlier, Shabazz\u2019 relatives had sought the\u2028assistance of a government official in having him discharged from\u2028the hospital, claiming they were sending the young man to\u2028Dominica. However, reportedly, he never left this country.<\/p>

Shabazz has been in trouble with the law over several years,\u2028allegedly since he was a teenager, and has been in and out of prison.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Sources claim he was involved in a number of incidents at the penal\u2028institution \u2013 including the April 2021 stabbing of a prison officer\u2028with a makeshift weapon, multiple times, seriously injuring him.\u2028In that instance, Shabazz reportedly was charged with unlawful and\u2028malicious wounding.\u2028\u00a0\u2028On another occasion, Shabazz reportedly made attempts to escape\u2028from prison by jumping the 30-foot wall; but he was immediately\u2028recaptured.<\/p>\n

Now, sources say that a relative is claiming that society has failed\u2028the young man.\u2028\u00a0\u2028The Police have promised, but are yet to issue a statement on\u2028Thursday\u2019s shooting incident.<\/p>\n
