The St. Mary\u2019s South Branch of the United Progressive Party (UPP) has launched a Back-to-School Backpack Distribution throughout the villages of Bolans, Johnson\u2019s Point, Crabbe Hill and Urlings.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

 <\/p>\n

Through this initiative, children receive backpacks filled with the necessary supplies to head back to school feeling confident and ready to learn.<\/span><\/p>

 <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

All of the materials were donated by members of the community and the private sector.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The program is designed to demonstrate to parents that their children are supported and valued by the community.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

UPP Candidate for St. Mary\u2019s South, Kelvin \u201cShugy\u201d Simon, a former school guidance counselor, knows first hand about the hardships that some families face in purchasing school supplies.<\/span><\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cWe want every child to return to the classroom equipped with the tools necessary to succeed.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is about giving the children a great first step as they start a new school year.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Any family who needs help with basic back-to-school supplies will receive new backpacks and supplies,\u201d Simon stated.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Over 150 children received new backpacks filled with pens, pencils, crayons, notebooks and other essentials.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Some of the children wrote thank-you notes to express their appreciation to the various organizations that made donations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cTimes are rough and this backpack distribution comes at a much-needed time. Many families have to make hard decisions between buying clothing and supplies for school, signing up for sports and after school activities.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So anything we can do as a community to put smiles on the faces of these children, while easing the financial burden on parents, is what we\u2019re trying to achieve,\u201d Simon added.<\/span><\/p>\n
